Southwest Austin has a new spot to eat, sip, and unwind — LEONA Botanical Cafe & Bar officially opened its doors on November 11 in Sunset Valley. This vibrant destination brings together culture, cuisine, and community in a way that locals are sure to love.
A Collaboration Rooted in Friendship and Flavor
LEONA is the brainchild of two dynamic duos: Lakana and Justin Trubiana of DEE DEE, and sisters Reyna and Maritza Vazquez of Veracruz All Natural. The teams first connected as food truck neighbors in East Austin in 2018, and their shared passion for food and community led to this permanent space. Today, that vision comes alive in LEONA — a place where Thai and Mexican flavors meet, surrounded by a serene, botanical atmosphere.
Flavors for Every Occasion
LEONA offers a day-to-night experience. Start your morning with specialty coffee and pastries, enjoy a flavorful lunch of Thai Fried Chicken, Pork Dumplings, tacos, and torts, or unwind in the evening with cocktails crafted to complement the cuisine.
Food lovers can look forward to the upcoming Bun Bun Burger, a playful collaboration between DEE DEE and Veracruz All Natural, as well as a rotating bakery program that highlights a new local bakery every three months.
Honoring Local History
The space itself has a story — the property once belonged to philanthropist and World War II veteran Betty Grubs. To honor her legacy, LEONA will host an annual fundraising event benefiting UT’s Betty Grubbs Endowed Scholarship Program.
A Serene Outdoor Oasis
Spread across five acres, LEONA preserves over 90 trees from the original landscape and adds 80 more, complete with flowing water streams and lush garden areas. Guests can even pick fresh herbs to complement their meals — a nod to Lakana Trubiana’s roots as a Thai farmer and her dream of sharing her culture through food.
