5 Road Projects Shaping the Future of Round Rock

Round Rock continues to invest in transportation improvements that support easier travel, safer streets, and stronger connections between neighborhoods, parks, shopping, and major roadways.

Here are five current and upcoming projects to watch.

East Old Settlers Boulevard Extension

The East Old Settlers Boulevard Extension connects Red Bud Lane to CR 110 with four lanes and a new bridge over McNutt Creek. Funded through 2023 road bonds and Type B sales tax revenue, the project was finalized in early August and is expected to open once traffic shifts on the adjacent Red Bud North project.

This extension will provide another route through a growing part of Round Rock and improve access to destinations such as Old Settlers Park, Dell Diamond, and nearby shopping and dining.

Red Bud Lane North Widening

Red Bud Lane is being transformed from a two-lane road into a four-lane divided roadway, with intersection and pedestrian improvements included in the project.

Construction is underway and anticipated to continue through spring 2027. Once complete, the expanded corridor will help accommodate growth and improve travel along a key route for residents in northeast Round Rock.

South Chisholm Trail Road Improvements

South Chisholm Trail Road is being reconstructed from Sam Bass Road to RM 620. Along with roadway upgrades, the project includes drainage improvements, pedestrian paths, and updated lighting.

Expected to continue through fall 2026, these improvements will create a more functional route for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists traveling through this area of Round Rock.

Smyers Lane Rehabilitation

Smyers Lane is scheduled for a full roadway rebuild from RM 620 to Wyoming Springs, with construction expected to begin in September 2026 and continue through late 2026.

Deepwood Drive Extension

The planned Deepwood Drive Extension will connect RM 620 to Sam Bass Road with a four-lane roadway and a roundabout at Sam Bass. The project is currently in field investigation and schematic development, with bidding targeted for 2027 or 2028.

Once completed, it is expected to create another important east-west connection and give residents more options for moving around the area.
